Standards and Requirements for Temperature-Controlled Transport
The Agreement on the Transport of Perishable Foodstuffs (ATP) pertains to international cross-border transport and the equipment used for temperature-controlled transport. The ATP is a United Nations agreement signed by 48 countries, establishing the necessary requirements for temperature-controlled transport.
Article 19 of the Transport Decree of July 20, 1998, specifies that professionals are not required to use an ATP-compliant container if the transport distance from the loading point is less than 80 km, for all types of products (fresh and frozen) transported without any break in the cold chain.
The renewal of ATP certification is the responsibility of the owner/user of the insulated container. The first renewal occurs six years from the manufacturing date. After that, it must be renewed every three years until the container reaches 12 years of use.
Cémafroid is the competent authority in France for issuing ATP certification to manufacturers of insulated solutions.

The ATP plate is affixed to the container in a visible manner. The plate indicates:
- The number of the test reports for the body and refrigeration unit;
- The K coefficient value;
- The identification marks followed by the ATP validity expiration date.
A standard insulated unit (IN) has a K coefficient ≤ 0.70 W/m².°C,
A reinforced insulated unit (IR) has a K coefficient ≤ 0.40 W/m².°C.

How to choose a model of insulated container ?
The choice of an insulated container rests on several parameters which will be analysed with a member of our team:
- Type of products to be transported;
- Volume of products to be transported and their packaging;
- Type of vehicle used to transport the insulated container;
- Organisation of collection and/or delivery rounds;

The choice of the container is also associated with that of the cold source. This must be selected based on different data:

Do you offer an annual service
Yes. To prolong the useful life of the insulated containers and to combat MSDs, Olivo offers a fleet maintenance service. Seals, walls, casters, feet and gas springs all need to be checked regularly to guarantee they are in good condition and working properly. What preventive operations are recommended to guarantee the longevity of an insulated container?
In order to prolong the useful life of insulated containers, Olivo recommends certain preventive actions:
- Cleaning and disinfection of the equipment based on a washing plan defining the method and frequency;
- Lubrication of the closing systems, casters and brakes;
- Checking the tyres on the casters for wear;
- Annual technical inspection: checking the condition of the inner and outer walls, the seals, etc.
